Other Names: These are the substitute names for boric acid: Ortho boric acid and boracic acid.

Properties: White crystalline powder, odorless, stable in open air.

Density: 1.4347 at 15°C

Solubility: It is soluble in hot boiling water. It is also soluble in glycerin and alcohol.

  • Orally poisonous
  • Its weak solution or diluted solution mostly use.
  • In dry form, it causes etching on the skin.

Composition/Preparation: It is prepared by the reaction of a borax solution with sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid.

Uses:

Used in the production of heat-resistant glass (borosilicate glass).

In glass fiber production.

Porcelain enamels manufacturing.

In the production of boron chemicals.

For metal industry, for welding flux formation.

In cellulose insulation.

In mattress batting and cotton textile products.

For fungus control in fruit preservation and in cosmetics, in eye lotions and washes making.

In pharmaceuticals, in ointments, water solutions, and electroplating baths, boric acid is abundantly used.
