  • Its other names are paramenthaine, peppermint camphor
  • It is a white colored powder with the cooling taste and distinct odor
  • Its melting point is 41 to 43 degree Celsius

SOLUBILITY

  • It is soluble in alcohol glacial acidic acid and oils
  • Less soluble in water

EFFECTS

  • Can catch fire, less poisonous

PREPARATION

  • Obtained by freezing peppermint oil

PRECAUTION

  • It can be harmful for salivary membranes

Menthol uses

It is used in fragrances, cigarettes, flavoring agent, chewing and cough drops, sweets and toffees, tooth paste and tooth powder, mouth wash, body powder, after shave lotions, pain killing lotions and creams.
