Properties: Colorless, opaque crystals or powder.

Melting point: 287°C

Solubility: It is soluble in alcohol and water.

Effects: Air and light have a great effect on its stability.

Preparation: It is prepared by boiling sodium cyanide with sulfur.

Grades: It is available in technical, pure crystals, and CP grades.

Precautions: Poisonous compound.

Uses:

  • In electroplating, for the preparation of black nickel.
  • In the making of synthetic mustard oil.
  • In textiles for dyeing and printing.
  • In medicine, especially for treating high blood pressure.
